Entertainment in Rochester
As one of the five Medway towns, there is plenty to keep you occupied in and around Rochester.
Eating and drinking
Whether you are after Thai, Italian, Indian or a simple English meal, Rochester has it all. Little cafés selling sandwiches, quaint tearooms offering high tea and chic restaurants for the evening - you are spoilt for choice.
- Bengal Brasserie - If you want tasty, succulent and sumptuous Indian dishes, you can't do any better than this place. It's so popular that the punters practically queue up at the back door to get their evening takeaways
- Elizabeth of Eastgate - Excellent European food in authentic English surroundings. Friendly and professional service, fresh fish and seafood delivered daily from Billingsgate market and an extensive wine list with more than 80 different wines to choose from
- Simply Italian - If you are passionate about Italian culture as well as the food, you will love this place.
Shopping
The streets of Rochester are lined with lots of quirky, individual shops and boutiques. Here are some of our favourites:
- Rochester Indoor market - Weekly market where you can pick up all sorts of gems. Don't be afraid to haggle either.
- Copenhagen Blue - Ladies fashion boutique that personifies the word contemporary. This is a lovely shop to come to for a browse and there is also a spa upstairs.
- Hometown - A quilt store that stocks traditional and contemporary fabrics, waddings and haberdashery as well as British textile art and home accessories. If you love colour or cloth, you'll love Hometown.
Cinema and theatre
With two cinemas within a one mile radius, Rochester is spoilt for choice for films. The Odeon cinema, Chatham has nine screens showing all the latest blockbusters and with student discounts available. For more information visit the ODEON - Chatham website. Alternatively, catch a showing at the Cineworld cinema, Rochester.
Whether you're after large productions, edgy plays, vibrant musicals or great comedies you can find them here in Rochester at Medway Little Theatre or at The Central and Brook Theatres in Chatham.
Pubs and clubs
If you're looking for a great night out, Rochester has loads of student friendly bars and pubs. There are also many great clubs geared towards the student audience in Rochester and Chatham. Here is just a taster:
- Enigma - Coffee and wine bar. A lively atmosphere on a Friday and Saturday evening but a more studenty, chilled out vibe during other days of the week, particularly Tuesdays which is student night.
- The Queen Charlotte - A pub and restaurant where you can get cooked meals and listen to live music.
- Tap 'n' Tin - This is the place where all the cool kids hang out. With a large lounge, snooker rooms and a room where indie groups and bands come to play it is no surprise that Tap 'n' Tin is one of the top spots in Medway.
- The Casino Rooms - The hub of Rochester High Street where almost everyone ends up on a Friday or Saturday night. The drinks are cheap as chips and with three rooms for dancing you can't go wrong.
