General Guidance for Applicants
Staff considering an application are strongly advised to consider carefully the criteria for each of the five opportunities for funding to make sure you choose the one which is most appropriate. You should then make sure that your application fulfils the criteria as closely as possible.
The Funds
The University offers five funds to support and develop research activities:-
Promising Researcher Fund The Promising Researcher Fund is designed to support academic members of staff at the early stages of their research careers or for staff re-engaging with their research. This fund is specifically for staff who have not previously been involved in research and may include development as well as research dissemination costs.
The maximum award available is £2000.
Research Fund
The Research Fund is designed to provide financial support, including dissemination costs, consumables, and travel and subsistence, for established academic researchers.
The maximum award available is £5000.
Research Cluster Fund (Only available in Round 1)
The Cluster Fund is designed to promote the development of collaborative research through research groups and clusters. The proposal will need to demonstrate interaction and cross fertilisation of ideas across the University and within the external research community. Projects should result in an output which is attributable to at least one member of the research group or cluster and it is expected that the funding will lead to an application for external research grant and contract funding, such as the AHRC, to achieve the aims of the Cluster.
The maximum award available is £4000.
Research Sabbatical Fund
This Fund is designed to provide remission from teaching of between 15 days to one semester either in a block of time or dispersed through the year to complete a research project which will result in a significant internationally recognised research output.
Enterprise and Impact Fund
The Fund is designed to provide support for the exploitation of excellent research by developing applications, public impact and benefits and/or work towards its commercialisation.
The maximum award available is £3,000.
Who Can Apply?
Full or Associate members of the UCA Research Institute (RI) or staff with a contractual obligation to undertake research activities who have recently submitted a self-nomination to become a member of the UCA RI and where the decision is still pending. Staff must have their RI membership confirmed before funds can be allocated to their research project.
Your application should be submitted electronically to the Research Office roffice@ucreative.ac.uk
If you have any queries in relation to any of the schemes, please contact either your Associate Dean for Postgraduate Research (Kent - Simon Bliss, Surrey - Jamie Dobson) and/or the Research Office
