Research centres play a central role in the co-ordination of research around areas of specialist academic focus. They support collaborative research by bringing researchers and academic staff together, often attracting funding from the research councils to undertake projects with industry, commerce and the professions.
The University co-ordinates its research activities through a number of research centres:
The Centre maintains links with Japanese Arts Universities and with notable textile artists in Japan and the UK and other related countries. Activities have included a mentoring scheme between established and new artists in the two countries.
The Centre for Sustainable Design (CfSD) has built world class knowledge and expertise of sustainable innovation and product sustainability.
Crafts Study Centre (CSC)
The Crafts Study Centre is home to internationally-renowned collections of modern British craft and inspiring exhibitions by leading artist-makers.
The Centre for Digital Scholarship exists to promote, support and enhance excellence in learning, teaching and research across the visual arts and wider community through improving knowledge, understanding and practice of the creation, collection, curation, presentation, engagement and preservation of digital assets.
