Ideal Home for UCA fashion show
23 March 2010
A "recycled" fashion collection designed by students from the University for the Creative Arts at Epsom is currently being exhibited at the Ideal Home Show in London.
The mental health charity, Mind, asked BA (Hons) Fashion students to create new clothes from the unwanted items in their charity shops.
The Make Do and Mend collection can be seen on the upper level at Earls Court twice a day until Monday 5 April.
Bob Monteath, Managing Director of Mind's shops, said: "Recycling and re-using unwanted goods is what charity shops are all about.
"We hope that our showcase with UCA at this year's Ideal Home Show will encourage people to be more creative with the clothes and fabrics that can be bought from Mind's charity shops."
Phil Rowland, Fashion lecturer at UCA Epsom, said: "The students needed to be extremely resourceful and creative with their designs to be able to make something for the catwalk from the old items they were given, but I think they have done brilliantly.
"It is also a fantastic opportunity for them to be showing their work in front of thousands of people every day at an event as prestigious as the Ideal Home Show – we are all very proud of their efforts."
Their eco-chic creations will be auctioned off on the final day of the Ideal Home Show (Monday 5 April). Any remaining garments will be available to buy at the new Mind shop in Brighton from 31 March 2010.
