BA (Hons) Sports Journalism
3 years full-time at UCA Farnham

This specialist sports journalism degree is taught alongside the BA (Hons) Journalism within the successful journalism department at UCA Farnham – launched in 1992, one of the longest-established journalism schools in the UK.

The National Student Satisfaction survey (published September 2008) shows the Farnham BA (Hons) Journalism degree to have 96% student satisfaction – making us the joint top journalism course in the country!

The National Student Satisfaction survey also showed Farnham's journalism courses to have one of the best employability ratings of all media courses or journalism degrees: 90% of UCA journalism graduates are in employment or in further study six months after graduating.

The new BA (Hons) Sports Journalism is the only sports journalism degree to offer you practical, high-tech production training across all four media – print, online, radio and television. This strength in production improves your chances in the fierce competition for journalism jobs when you graduate.

The BA (Hons) Sports Journalism allows you to mix your media specialties in any combination. This is the only sports journalism degree that allows you to combine in-depth broadcast journalism training with specialist training in magazine journalism, newspaper journalism or web journalism.

We have excellent industry links. Work placements are built in to all our journalism courses. Recent placements include Sky Sports, The Independent sports desk, Ace and Boxing News; and sports journalism work for local papers such as the Aldershot Mail and local radio stations such as Delta FM.

We already have confirmation of support for our new sports journalism courses from a major London sports club and we are in talks with other professional sports clubs, sporting bodies and sports publishers to ensure a range of high quality work experience and expert specialist teaching from the world of sport and sports journalism.

UCA's new degree in sports journalism includes training in the history of sport, the institutions of sport and the business of sport and, to ensure that you meet industry requirements, specialist training in media law.

You will be taught by experienced journalists and industry professionals. Our journalism teachers have worked at the BBC, ITN and ITV Sport; in local radio; at major newspapers including The Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph and The Observer and on a wide range of magazines, from Yachting Life to Autocar.

Farnham in Surrey is ideally located for the sports fan. Within half an hour travel time there is Twickenham, the home of English rugby; the All England Club at Wimbledon; the Chelsea FC training grounds at Esher; the McLaren Formula 1 HQ at Woking; and leading racecourses at Epsom, Sandown and Ascot. In Farnham we are next door to the 2012 Team GB Olympic training centre at Aldershot. We are a 40-minute drive to the coast with world class sailing on the Solent and a surf centre at the Witterings near Chichester.
