14 November 2008

The University for the Creative Arts (UCA) at Rochester and the Ueda College of Fashion in Osaka will present an Anglo-Japanese fashion show in East London on 28 November between 7 and 8pm.

Members of the public and media are invited to the Christ Church in Spitalfields, from 6.30pm for a catwalk show featuring designs from the Ueda, School of Fashion international Collection and UCA Rochester.

The event named "Overlap", now in its second outing, first took place in November 2006.

Graduate Fashion Week 2008 finalists from UCA Rochester, Shahzadi Khan, Hannah Bartlett, Collette Gibbs and Claire Davies will open the show.

A series of fashion films created by the fashion promotions students from UCA Rochester will also feature in the show, and will be judged on the night. Winning entrants will fly to Osaka later in the year.

Thomass Atkinson, Director of Studies for Fashion at UCA Rochester said: "Ueda in Osaka and UCA in Rochester have a strong association. Both are institutions proud of their commitment to fashion and education. Both have given birth to talented designers and have a strong reputation and heritage in the UK and Japan."

He added: "Apart from featuring an amazing body of work, the event will provide students from both institutions an invaluable opportunity for cultural exchange."

Tickets for the event cost £5. Proceeds will go towards the Gateway School of Fashion in South Africa for designers affected by HIV. UCA Rochester with former student Karen Millen helped establish the school near Johannesburg two years ago.
