Comedy poet offers master class to local schools

John Hegley The University for the Creative Arts at Rochester (UCA) and Aim Higher, Kent and Medway will offer schools a free poetry workshop, hosted by the UCA Creative Writing Group, with well known comedy poet John Hegley on Tuesday 21 October.

Schools from across Medway and Kent have been invited to enjoy an hour long comedy poetry performance aimed at Years 9 – 13 at the UCA Rochester followed by a poetry workshop.

John's comedy poetry characters include, an organic leak who has learned how to speak; the octopus who gets a nasty shoktopus, and the man who drew his own cornflakes.

Curtis Tappenden, from the Creative Writing Group at UCA said: "We are very excited to introduce local school children to John and his zany characters. We hope that this fantastic opportunity helps to inspire the next generation of talented and creative poets."

John has most recently performed his work at the Latitude Festival, Glastonbury Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Paramount Comedy Festival, and he is also a regular on BBC Radio 4. His poetry publications include 'Glad To Wear Glasses (1990), Beyond Our Kennel (1998), My Dog Is A Carrot (2002), and Uncut Confetti (2006).
