Animated couple win ITV prize
18 June 2008
Aaron Wood, Katie Steed, and their new animation company Slurpy Studios have won an ITV competition. The couple's winning animation will be shown at 6.15pm every weekday evening between 23 – 27 June on ITV Meridian, Thames Valley and West.
Aaron and Katie are animation graduates of the University for the Creative Arts at Farnham. They met and began dating in 2005.
In the contest they fought off national competition with a colourful ten second animation that will be used as the title banner for the ITV's Fixers programme that features young viewers presenting short films about current issues.
Aaron (25) from Sunbury in Surrey and Katie (24) from Harpendon in Hertfordshire first worked together at the Animation Research Centre based at Farnham. After two years curator-ship of animation exhibitions, maintaining the website, and promoting the animation archive; they decided to set up their own animation studio earlier this year.
Katie said: "We knew we made a good team and that we would work well as animators. In the studio, I tend to do the designs and generally Aaron does the implementation. We compliment each other very well."
Aaron said: "Studying at UCA gave us the opportunity to meet many graduate animators who went on to start up successful businesses."
Aaron and Katie tailor animations to their clients needs. With businesses increasingly wanting visually exciting websites, the pair are happy with the progress they have made in their first year of business.
Aaron added: "We're only four months into the business and we've already finished three website commissions, and six web banners. We are currently working on a title sequence for ITV and are in the pre-production process for a music video."
In April this year former Farnham student Suzie Templeton won an Oscar for animation bringing the total of Oscars for the University for the Creative Arts to four.
The University for the Creative Arts has been awarded university title and will re-launch as University for the Creative Arts in September.
