BA (Hons) Fashion Design
3 years full-time at UCA Rochester

The course prepares you for a career in Fashion. It is a skill-based course that allows you the ability to explore your ideas both two and three dimensionally using a variety of techniques and approaches through exciting and challenging projects.

You are introduced to basic pattern and production skills in the first year and these skills are then built upon throughout the following years to include techniques of modelling on the stand and bespoke tailoring techniques. The design projects you study on the course enable you to explore design ideas from concept through to a final garment, concluding in a whole collection in final year. During the course you are trained in computer aided design (CAD) as well as developing traditional drawing skills. Additionally you are introduced to techniques to promote your work such as styling and marketing.

The course has excellent links with industry and often has industry related projects and industry experts collaborating on projects. It has a diverse staffing base with a wealth of industry experience. Many of the staff continue to work in Fashion ensuring that the curriculum and teaching reflects contemporary practice.

The success of the course can be measured in the achievements of its students. In the past year students scooped three of the most prestigious prizes in national competitions including winner of the River Island Menswear portfolio competition, winner of the Best Womenswear Collection and the overall Gold prize for the best collection at Graduate Fashion Week.
