Sandy Brown: The still point and the dance

1 July - 16 August 2008
Crafts Study Centre
James Hockey & Foyer Galleries
Farnham, Surrey

Visitor Information

A solo exhibition by this acclaimed ceramicist. The exhibition shows large scale sculptural ceramics, huge painted canvases and performances of the Japanese Tea Ceremony. The Still Point consists of a contemporary tea ceremony at the Crafts Study Centre in which Sandy has designed the tearoom and the furniture, textiles, silver and ceramic utensils. The energy and scale of the ceramic works in The Dance at the James Hockey Gallery celebrates the possibilities of the medium to create expressive pieces of sculpture with a form and intention beyond the familiar and domestic.

'Sandy spent two years researching and developing her ideas... and the creation of this landmark exhibition is a triumphant conclusion to these investments'
Professor Simon Olding, Director Crafts Study Centre writing in Ceramic Review
