BA (Hons) Graphic Design: New Media

This course investigates the exciting world of current and emerging technologies. You develop a critical understanding of these technologies and explore their creative potential in creating effective and evocative media-rich communication.

The study of motion graphics, interface and interaction design develops practitioners in a broader communication design context. These areas include the study of sequence and narrative, human computer interaction, time-based design and animation, and are often two ends of the same solution in contemporary new media communication design practice.

The course is dedicated to fostering the independent, creative and inquiring mind, providing opportunities to develop critical and analytical skills while gaining the theoretical and practical skills necessary to work within this intense yet challenging design arena. The course ensures that graduates are equipped with the skills to continue learning and developing in both life and work.

The course has close links with industry and teaches you the relevant skills to meet the demand for designers who are able to manipulate text and image in time-based design.

The four year course includes a specialist foundation year that will help you develop technical and conceptual graphic design skills. On successful competition of this year you progress directly to Year 1 of the degree course.

Facilities
You have access to a dedicated studio space equipped with Macs and PCs, programmed with the latest industry standard software. You also use the fully equipped photographic studios with dark rooms and digital processing facilities, specialist processing equipment such as green screen for animation and laser cutting. In addition we have a range of dedicated analogue resources such as screen-printing and letterpress.
