Jessica Voorsanger

Jessica Voorsanger is an American artist living in London. She trained as a painter at the Rhode Island School of Design (BFA) and later received her MA from Goldsmiths College (now part of London University). She makes work exploring popular culture with a particular fascination with celebrity.
Research Profile
Jessica Voorsanger is particularly interested in the relationship between the fan and the celebrity. This is explored through obsession, souvenirs, sound and image. She uses a range of different media from performance & installation to beadwork and mail art. She has had one person exhibitions in London, New York, Edinburgh, Turin and Berlin and has shown in group shows all over the world. Her recent exhibitions and projects have included: Hearing Voices, Seeing Things at the Serpentine Gallery (London 2006), Forward/Backward & Reloading at Island 6 Art Center (Shanghai 2006) as part of the Artists Links project supported by the British Council and the Arts Council in China and has recently performed some performances at the Hayward Gallery as part of the How to Improve the World: 60 Years of British Art from the Arts Council Collection (London 2006).
