Paul Cox
(Born 1975)
Born in Shoreham-by-Sea, Paul Cox graduated with a First Class Degree in Fine Art (Sculpture) and in 1999 completed an MA at the Royal Academy Schools in London. 'Udder and Over' reflects Paul's interest in how cartoons and comic strips, while mirroring the real world are part of and separate from reality simultaneously. The candid humour of the cartoon and its ambivalent familiarity allow the viewer to re-visit lost memories. The scale, texture and colours with their suggestions of childhood and toys invite emotional associations.
The image of a table and chair, a recurring theme in Paul's work, refers to the school phase, growing up and home life, reminding the viewer of the independence. The sculpture was sited in its particular location to offer a focal point, a place to meet, have fun and form new relationships.
