Andrew Whamond - Examining Life
This is the first book devoted to the work of British artist Andrew Whamond. Born in 1947, in Holme on Spalding Moor in East Yorkshire, he has lived and worked in London, Scotland and Sussex.
His primary interest is people. The identification of their emotional locations are the touchstones of his work and are explored visually in his paintings, which examine the universal themes of life through focussing on his own experiences.
In an intriguing interview with Christine Kapteijn, Galleries Manager at the University, he reveals some of the inner processes that have informed his work over the last ten years, a period which has seen a transition from paintings which combined empirically painted heads with abstract areas, to a style which has been described as abstract narrative.
