Epsom has lots to keep you occupied when you aren't studying. With London only 30 minutes away by train, you really will be spoilt for choice.

Eating and drinking

When it comes to eating and drinking there is an endless choice in Epsom. With more than 60 restaurants and pubs - many offering student deals - you can enjoy a night out that won't break the bank. Choose between big name fast food chains or speciality restaurants exclusive to Epsom.

  • Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant - Great tasting authentic Mexican food and sensational cocktails at great prices. Come and enjoy live music on Saturdays with your favourite Mexican dish or simply relax at the bar with a drink.
  • Slug and Lettuce - Good pub food and cheap bottles of wine including half price night on Mondays.
  • The Living Rooms - A girly home/gift shop which has its own tea rooms. They do amazing cream teas and cupcakes.

Shopping

Epsom has a high street full of popular stores and The Ashley Centre is only a few minutes' walk away. Alternatively, catch the train to London and visit the capital's famous markets and high streets.

  • Epsom Town Market - Every Thursday and Saturday at The Clock Tower.
  • Farmer's Market - First Sunday of every month in Epsom Market Place.

Cinema and theatre

Watch a variety of shows showcasing local talent and famous names or catch a box office hit.

  • Epsom Playhouse - The Epsom Playhouse plays host to major leading theatrical companies performing comedy, light entertainment, opera, dance, drama, variety, popular children's shows and much more. A summer film season enables you to catch up on films you missed first time round.
  • ODEON - The ODEON Cinema, Epsom has eight screens showing all the latest blockbusters with student discounts available.

Festivals and fairs

Home to the famous Epsom Derby, the racecourse is a regular social meeting point for antique fairs, summer concerts and, of course, horse races. Guildford and London are nearby and play host to many festivals.

  • Epsom Live! At Epsom Downs - A series of great value Thursday evening fixtures where racing and music fans alike flock to see thrilling racing and a live outdoor concert. Acts have included The Feeling, JLS, James Morrison and Madness.
  • Guilfest - An independently-run festival with a friendly atmosphere attracting 20,000 visitors a day to Stoke Park, Guildford, with live music, comedy, children's entertainment, street theatre, exhibitions and caterers from around the world.

Pubs and clubs

Epsom has an exciting mix of bars and clubs, from exclusive cocktail bars and music venues to well-known pub chains including:

  • Boogie Lounge - Epsom's coolest bar and dancing venue with something for all music tastes and special drinks promotions most evenings
  • Marquis of Granby - Great food and reasonably priced drinks
  • El Papi's - A Latino themed cocktail bar which is a trendy coffee/lunch venue by day and a great party/music venue by night
  • The Rising Sun - Good pub within a stone's throw of the campus
  • Native Tongue - Local club offering comedy nights, DJs and bands covering all genres of music including indie, dance, folk, pop and funk.
