English language entry requirements

To study at the University for the Creative Arts, we require evidence of your English language ability to meet the requirements for your course.

If you are a Tier 4 student, you need to take a Secure English Language Test (SELT) which is recognised by the UK Home Office. Your SELT must be taken within two years of the start of the course.

Important information on ETS qualifications

The Home Office has confirmed that Education Testing Services' (ETS) licence to carry out secure English language tests has come to an end and will not be extended. This means that ETS will be removed from the list of approved secure English language test providers (SELT) and that all future ETS qualifications (including TOEFL and TOEIC) will no longer be accepted as evidence of English language ability for immigration purposes.

The UKVI has implemented transitional arrangements to ensure that genuine applicants who have not yet applied for a visa are not unduly affected by this change.

Those who are overseas can make a visa application relying on an ETS certificate as long as the visa application is made and the visa fee is paid before 22 July 2014.

Please note, that after this date applicants will need to have met the English language requirement using an alternative test from the UKVI approved list:  www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-on-applying-for-uk-visa-approved-english-language-tests.

If you have any questions about how this may affect you, please do not hesitate to contact UCA's International Admissions Team via internationaladmissions@ucreative.ac.uk or on +44 (0)1252 892838.

Don't forget, if you haven't yet met the English language requirements for your course, there's still time to secure a place on a pre-sessional English course at UCA this summer.

Pre-sessional English for Art & Design

Our Pre-sessional English language courses are specifically designed to prepare you to study art and design in the UK. Each course will improve your IELTS score by 0.5 (5 week course) or 1.0 (10 week course) and enable you to meet the English requirements for your main course at UCA.

Secure English Language Tests (SELTs)

An example of English language requirements using IELTS is included in the following table. We also accept other Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) to the equivalent level which have been approved by the Home Office.

You can find a list of Home Office Secure English Language Tests here.
