English language entry requirements

To study at the University for the Creative Arts, we require evidence of your English language ability to meet the requirements for your course.

If you are a Tier 4 student, you need to take a Secure English Language Test (SELT) which is recognised by the UK Home Office. Your SELT must be taken within two years of the start of the course.

Important information on Secure English Language Tests (SELTs)

Due to changes by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), you may be limited to the type of English test that you are able to take.

If you have taken your IELTS test before 23 April 2015 your test will be valid for immigration purposes if you apply before November 5 2015.

If you will be taking a test after 23 April 2015 we recommend all applicants take IELTS for the UKVI from an approved test centre.

Foundation and International Foundation applicants must take IELTS for UKVI from an approved test centre certain test centres or, if you are taking the test in the UK, Trinity ISE.

Bachelor and Master degree applicants should take IELTS for UKVI at an approved test centre where possible but you can also take IELTS Academic if you think you will be able to achieve the required scores for an unconditional offer.

Pre-sessional English applicants must take IELTS for UKVI at an approved test centre. We may be able to accept IELTS academic if you are able to achieve at least 5.5 in each of the Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking sub-tests.

If you are unsure which test to take, we advise you to book an IELTS for UKVI at an approved test centre.

Tests and approved test centres can be found here.

Don't forget, if you haven't yet met the English language requirements for your course, you could consider taking a Pre-sessional English course.

Pre-sessional English for Art & Design

Our Pre-sessional English language courses are specifically designed to prepare you to study art and design in the UK. Each course will improve your IELTS score by 0.5 (5 week course) or 1.0 (10 week course) and enable you to meet the English requirements for your main course at UCA.
