Portfolio/Interview

Include drawings, paintings, photography, printmaking and graphic design. Where available, also include sketchbooks, work on DVD, websites or 3D work. It is not essential to have experience of work in digital media but a keen interest must be demonstrated and you should be passionate and creative about the future of design.

All students need a portfolio to discuss during their interview. This should be presented in a simple, easy to look through folder and combine coursework alongside projects completed in your spare time, showing the range of your abilities and interests. It is helpful if your portfolio also demonstrates:

  • Your responses to any shows, events or exhibitions you have visited.
  • Any (paid or unpaid) work experience you have completed that is relevant to graphic design.
  • Examples of various approaches to observational drawing and composition.
  • Examples of illustration, drawing and photography, with less emphasis on digital work.
  • Evidence of any project that required deep research and development.
  • Awareness of the subject of new media and career opportunities in this field.
