Fine Art at UCA Canterbury teaches you to make art using a full range of media, through a programme of study that integrates studio practice with critical and historical studies. The course facilitates an open and exploratory approach to making work through sculpture, film, painting, video, performance, animation, drawing, photography, sound and print-making. You work in a spacious studio environment, with access to a full range of technical resources and support.
Key study topics include:
- Exploration of materials, techniques and processes
- Studio methodologies and skills development
- History of art, culture and theory programme
- Collaborative projects with external partners e.g. Turner Contemporary
- Expanded approaches to practice including digital and site-specific forms of working
- Study Abroad – Socrates/Erasmus programme
- Overseas field trips
- Self-directed study
- Cross-disciplinary opportunities
- Thesis project – establishment of a self-directed critical practice
- Opportunities to curate, exhibit, screen, and perform
- Professional practice and exploration of outcomes in public contexts
