UALAB Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design
2 years full-time
Equivalent to three A Levels, the Extended Diploma is a level 3, two year practical course. During the early stages of the course you experiment with a variety of materials and techniques, including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, film and visual studies.
You are encouraged to adopt an experimental and open-minded approach to your work, to develop ideas and to solve problems. The course is studio and workshop based and highly practical. The later part of the course concentrates on the skills needed for your chosen area and develops your confidence in communicating ideas, opinions and creativity.

Key study topics include:
- Experimenting with a variety of materials and techniques including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, graphic design, fashion and textiles, 3D design and sculpture.
- You then specialise in one of the following broad areas: 3D design, fashion, textiles, fine art, lens-based media, graphic design or illustration.
From September 2012 this course will change from BTEC Extended Diploma to the Level 3 Extended Diploma accredited by UALAB.
